From an Irish family and made a baronet in 1808. Appointed His Britannic Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Court of Persia from 1810-1814 and accompanied by his older brother the Orientalist Sir William Ouseley (q.v.) who served as his private secretary. He was awarded the Imperial Order of the Lion and Sun by Fath 'Ali Shah in January 1812. The two brothers formed separate major collections of Oriental manuscripts. Sir Gore Ouseley's collection were at one time divided but are now mostly reunited in the Bodleian in the 'Ouseley Additions' and 'Elliott' MSS.
